This presentation was very good, and also very interesting, I just wish something like this had been on the go when I started collecting coins back in the early 1960’s!

I would have expected the second issue of the 1887 Jubilee Head Sixpence to be part of this list as more money was probably lost due to it being guilded and passed off as a Half Sovereign than the 1887 Double Florin. It was probably the coin with the quickest recall and replacement in British History. It probably cost a lot to replace it (in man-hours) and it meant that 3 different sixpences were actually made for circulation that year with the Young Head with wreath reverse, the Jubilee Head with the Garter reverse (withdrawn type), and the replacement type with Jubilee Head and wreath reverse. There are also several other varieties of the 1887 sixpence making it IMHO one of the most interesting sixpences to collect.

Hi John, thanks for the comment! You’re right the 1887 withdrawn sixpence is certainly a very interesting coin, and it would have lost people a lot of money– definitely one to keep an eye out for.

Hi Alain, that’s definitely another coin with an intriguing story – but very difficult to track down!
